DeRUSHA Download: Winter Adventure Weekend
World Record Ice, Men's Health Dialogue, St. Thomas Hoops, New Restaurant in Hopkins
I’ve decided not to be a winter wimp. I think it’s fine to complain about the cold and the snow - I think most of us do it because it binds us together. We live here - we’re tough - we can handle this. Also we hate it. Now some of you love it, although I suspect more love winter sports than just loving sheer frigid temps. I’ve decided the only thing I can control is my mindset - so I’m going to try to take advantage of the unique experiences the cold brings. Read on for where I’m going today - and how you can DIVE IN! - Jason
DOWNLOAD DIALOGUE: WHY MEN HATE THE DOCTOR
I finally did it this week. My arms have been hurting me for a couple months (last year I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder that causes pain in both of my triceps) and my lower back has been hurting too. For 8 months. I took my teenager to a doc this week for something that’d been bothering him for 2 years and decided I need to grow up. Women are used to going to doctors all the time, dating to their teen years. Men typically associate the doctor with bad news, right? We go when we know it’s a problem. We avoid hearing bad news. We figure if we don’t test for it, it doesn’t exist.
And so as I turn 50, in a new year, I’m dedicated to getting over it. Not gonna suffer, not gonna hope that things magically clear up. My pain isn’t debilitating, but it is annoying and omnipresent. So TCO, I’ll see you Tuesday for the shoulder/arms and Thursday for the back. Let’s get it on track for 2025!

ONE MORE THING
Alyssa and I went to the University of St. Thomas basketball game Wednesday night and the gym was BUMPING. On top of that - the quality of basketball was tremendous - SDSU is a great team too, but it is fun watching the Tommies play. Don’t sleep on it!
Glad you aren’t being a hero (or martyr) and getting little things checked out before they become big things. As someone who also just turned 50, I recommend the other preventatives that are important for people our age — getting the Shingles vaccine and booster (completed in late November) and having a colonoscopy (scheduled for next week).
